Ancillaries & Payloads

Augmenting the payloads of our targets to recreate the profiles of specific threats is key to delivering accurate and realistic training to our customers.

What Does Your Threat Look Like?

From altering Radar Cross Section and Infra-Red signatures, to manipulating types of electronic emissions, we provide options for any scenario based on the threats you need to train for.

Target Payloads

Active Radar Emulator

When integrated into an aerial target, the Active Radar Homing Emulator (AHRE) recreates an active homing missile threat.

This is used to fully exercise electronic warfare systems, or to activate warning systems to evaluate automatic defence aids.

Infra-Red Hot Nose

The Hot Nose is a black-body Infra-Red (IR)enhancement system that provides a proven heat source for IR tracked, guided or fused weapons.

It is easily fitted to a Banshee target without affecting its performance characteristics.

Infra-Red Tracking Flare

The IR Tracking Flare is an enhancement used with the family of Banshee Targets to create a bright trace in infra-red spectrum.

Our Infra-Red tracking flares have been used for testing a variety of weapon systems including MANPADS such as Stinger.

Passive Radar Add-On

Altering a target’s Radar Cross Section to match a specific profile for both sensor tracking and live fire engagement training.

Radar enhancements for aerial targets include Lunberg lenses’, corner reflector arrays and reflective tape.

AMDI Scoring System

Acoustic Miss Distance Indication (AMDI) is a multi role scoring system for gunnery training and weapons assessment.

The system detects and quantifies the acoustic shockwave of projectiles to assess accuracy and feedback data.

Smoke Pods

Coloured smoke which provides a visual cue of target bearing, distance and speed.

Typically used for early stage training with Man-Portable Air Defence (MANPAD) systems and smaller calibre crewed anti-aircraft guns on land and on naval ships.

Ground Controls & Avionics

MERLIN Ground Station

The Merlin ground station may be configured to control up to two Banshee, Snipe or Sprite targets simultaneously.

It is packed in a rugged, moulded, military specification, 19’’ rack container to provide a truly mobile unit.

CASPA Avionics

The Combined Autopilot and Surveillance Avionics (CASPA) Payload is a QinetiQ proprietary system.

Featuring an integrated autopilot, inertial measurement unit and digital data links which enables fully autonomous flight.

Launching Systems

KEC Mk4 Launcher

A proven design that has been in continuous worldwide service on land and at sea for 30 years.

With a maximum launch velocity of 34 metres/second, the KEC Launcher can launch air vehicles of over 140 kg in weight.

Hercules Launcher

The Hercules pneumatic launcher uses a low pressure pneumatic system operating at up to 10 bar.

It can launch Unmanned Air Vehicles with an all-up-weight of up to 250kg whilst achieving a maximum launch speed of 55m/s.

Lightweight Launcher

Our lightweight launcher is a free standing unit based on a launch rail with an overall length of 6.22 metres.

When deployed the rail assumes a launch angle of 15° and can launch lightweight UAV’s in a confined environment.
